About
Our Church
On February 8, 1843, First
Baptist Church was
organized at a
meeting in the home of Rev. Hiriam Burnett.
The first building was built and dedicated in 1850.
As FBC grew, a new church
was built from 1868
to 1878 and dedicated free of debt.
After a
tornado severely damaged the building in 1882, it was completely
destroyed by a fire in 1905. Once
again, FBC
rebuilt and worshiped in the new building until new property was bought
and the
current
building dedicated on May 31, 1959.
FBC
has seen many changes in buildings, programs and pastors through the
years but
the task has remained the same. We
seek
to faithfully express God’s redeeming and reconciling love to
our community and
the world, bringing the message of Jesus Christ.
More Information
Times and Places
Sunday
School for all ages begins at 9:15am.
A nursery is available for both Sunday School
and the Worship service. Our
morning
Worship begins at 10:30am. Our
nursery
is located on the southeast area of the sanctuary and we have a
fireside room
available as a cry room directly behind the sanctuary.
The
Lord’s Supper
Our
congregation celebrates the Lord’s Supper the first
Sunday of every month. We
practice open
communion, which means it is not necessary to belong to this
congregation to
participate in the Lord’s Supper.
We
believe all who know Jesus should share in this special time together.
Baptism
This
congregation practices baptism by immersion for those
who have made a decision to follow Jesus and a confession of that faith. Anyone interested in
baptism should contact
the pastor. We
offer membership classes
a few times a year for anyone coming to be baptized or to join our
church.
Parent/Child
Dedications
Parents
who would like to bring their children for
dedication should contact the pastor.
This is a time for the parents to give thanks for their
children and for
the congregation to commit with the parents to provide a Christian home
and
environment for the child to grow.
Making
a Decision
The
final hymn in our service is called the Invitation
Hymn. If you would
like to make a
decision to follow Jesus Christ, you are invited to come to the front
of the
sanctuary as this hymn is being sung.
You may also come to the front during the Invitation hymn
to rededicate
your life, for prayer or to join with us in this congregation as we
seek to
follow Jesus. Please
feel free to
contact the pastor about questions concerning any of these decisions.
About the ABC/USA
